  • Complete periodontal (gum) examination and development of care plan
  • Intraoral photography for documentation and patient education

  • Existing dentistry (fillings, crowns, and implants) evaluation
  • Missing teeth consultation
  • Sleep-disordered breathing screening
  • Prescriptions and specialist referrals as necessary
  • Conversation and treatment planning

Digital X-Rays

Only a very small amount of dental issues can be diagnosed with a visual exam. This leaves a majority of conditions requiring dental digital x-ray(s) images for the discovery of problems. Because most dental issues are often pain-free, comprehensive digital dental x-rays are paramount in saving teeth. The frequency and number of images depend on patient status and history as well as cavity risk assessment. This assessment allows our dentists to care for patients and be proactive in the timely treatment of developing cavities and lesions.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride continues to be proven effective in decay prevention. Fluoride exists in most of our store-bought dental products like toothpaste and rinses, and also in the drinking water of many communities. There are also professional applications of fluoride.

Fluoride can be applied directly to the teeth after a dental cleaning in the form of a varnish. This in-office fluoride application decreases patient susceptibility to decay. All patients are welcome to this preventive service. Some normal candidates are children, teenagers, patients in orthodontics (braces), patients on medications that reduce saliva thus increasing cavity risk, and patients with a history of recent cavities.

Fluoride is typically delivered at the end of a dental cleaning appointment. Dentistry can always help restore, but decay prevention with professional fluoride varnish application is best!

Sealants

All teeth are vulnerable to decay. Tooth anatomy has valleys (grooves) and inclines (cusps). The grooves of teeth are the most prone to lodged bacteria leading to decay. This acidic process begins to cause decay that can not be brushed out by the patient at home and can spread deeper into the tooth. A preventive strategy utilized by our dentists is known as sealants.

Sealants are a rigid material that “seals” off these grooves, rendering a tooth much less prone to decay. Sealants are ideally placed when permanent teeth erupt (starting at six years old) but can be placed on baby teeth and permanent teeth after a dentist evaluation. Later in life, some minor cleaning of the grooves may be necessary before sealant application. A well-done sealant can decrease the likelihood of future dental work and tooth issues.

Oral Cancer Screening

Unfortunately, the effects of oral cancer can be devastating and present no symptoms. It is critical that oral cancer screenings are conducted twice a year. Certain risk factors may make patients at higher risk for oral cancer and should be discussed with their dentist. At Dental Arts Group, oral cancer screening is part of every bi-annual periodic exam. All patients are at risk for oral cancer and require examination, especially those patients without teeth and who have dentures.

Dental Arts Group is dedicated to providing you with the best care possible. With regular preventative care and protective measures like sealant application, you can be confident that your teeth will remain free from decay. If it has been longer than six months since your last dental visit, please don’t hesitate to contact us! We look forward to serving you.
